A Dangerous Interpretation of Profit Maximization

As I write, the opening moments of the recent tragic events in New York City and Washington, DC, are barely a day past. The ruins of the twin towers are still smoking. I'm still processing it all, as are many others. Our reactions to events of such enormity are necessarily complex, or so I suppose (I have no expertise in psychology), even for people whose immediate circle of family and friends was not directly impacted. Along with the usual distress, fear for family and friends, and anger, I've also been introspecting about my complicity in what happened.
