IT Marketing: The Forgotten Function -- Part II
In my last Update (see Part I, Vol. 8, No. 16), I suggested that IT organizations consider adding a new function -- IT marketing -- to complete the complement of functions in IT that parallel those of the business. I proposed that such a function include public relations (PR), enhancing IT's image, sales, pricing, customer care, and promotions, and then went on to discuss what duties an IT public relations, image, and sales department might undertake. In this Update, as promised, I pick up where I left off and discuss what IT pricing, customer care, and promotions would involve -- that is, "the rest of the story."
