Anatomy of an IT Turnaround: Part I -- Working with the Governance Council

by Kenneth Rau

This is the first in a series of Executive Updates about how the management unit of a nonprofit organization, finding itself faced with a problematic IT function, turned adversity to its advantage over a 12-month period. Here in Part I, I describe the IT environment that a new management team discovered upon its arrival and how it engaged and gained the commitment of the existing IT governance council to set up and help implement a bold, new direction for IT. The Update ends with lessons learned from this case study and offers takeaways you can apply to dealing with your own IT governance council.
