Service-Oriented Architecture: Strengths and Weaknesses

by Tom Welsh

This is the third in a series of four Executive Updates in which I am analyzing the results of a recent Cutter Consortium survey on service-oriented architecture (SOA). While examining current views about the value, risks, and implementation of SOA, I am also comparing this year's results with those of a similar Cutter survey carried out in early 2004.1 The idea is that we can learn something from the changes in opinion over time; so far, it must be admitted, the most noticeable trend has been for thinking to stay broadly the same.
