I have been skeptical of the claims made by knowledge management (KM) proponents since the technology's inception. Not because I did not believe their goals were important, but simply because I believed that their goals were too lofty for the state of the technology. However, although still a difficult application, the popularity of the enterprise information portal (EIP) and the commercialization of advanced content-management and text analysis techniques is making the often elusive goal of corporate KM more practical today.
