Oracle 10g for Enterprise Grid Computing

by Curt Hall

Last month I knocked Oracle Corporation, saying that the company ought to be putting more emphasis on its core database product instead of focusing so much on trying to buy ERP vendor PeopleSoft Inc. (" Is Oracle Sailing with a Broken Rudder?" 12 August 2003). Last week I attended the OracleWorld 2003 conference in San Francisco, where I got the chance to check out the latest major release of the company's database -- Oracle 10g . Since I knocked Oracle a while back, it's only fair that I provide an update of the company's new 10g database. Specifically, I'm going to cover Oracle's Enterprise Grid computing strategy and its applicability for data warehousing and business intelligence (BI).
