Time to Test Drive a New (Computing) Model?

The recent malaise in the tech sector has numerous causes and consequences, and many of these are not easy to sort out. It is a difficult time for sense making. A metaphor I've used a lot lately is from auto racing. A few weeks ago, the Firehawk 600 at the Texas Motor Speedway had to be cancelled when 21 of 25 drivers experienced dizziness and disorientation while their cars were traveling at 235 mph because of G forces generated by the steeply banked track. Many managers with decisionmaking authority in the IT area have no doubt experienced a similar kind of vertigo from the G forces generated by the tech-market roller coaster.
