We're Not in Canton Anymore

I was recently asked to make a presentation at a conference in Beijing to a group of financial executives of Chinese companies that were previously 100% state-owned but which are now partially privatized and attempting to develop "western" management programs and partnerships with western firms. While the following comments are not exactly along the line of "business-IT strategies," we thought that you might be interested in some anecdotal observations and conclusions. As dealing with China and Chinese companies is going to be more common in the very near future (doubters, please see Lenovo and CNOOC), we offer the following comments as data points for your consideration.
