Principles of Planning: When and How?

The last two of our seven planning questions deal with the scheduling of the initiative and the means by which it will be accomplished. Everyone knows what kind of data should be contained in a schedule of work to be performed: a list of tasks to be done and in what sequence, estimated dates for when the tasks will start and finish, and the names of people who will perform the various tasks. There are a variety of tools that can be used to reflect this data, ranging from simple spreadsheets to complex network diagrams to simple back-of-the-napkin drawings.
