Worldwide, large corporations collectively spend more than US $1 trillion per year on IT.1 For decades, IT organizations have been creating a vast and growing base of software systems and related artifacts. These artifacts include business process descriptions, software design models, infrastructure plans, and database schemas. Many of these software assets have significant commercial potential, yet very few are ever packaged or promoted for outside sale or license.
