Managing Technology Decisionmaking

by Ken Orr

This Executive Report is about learning how to bring predictability into technology management; making wise technology choices; and, in the words of Kenny Rogers, knowing "when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, and know when to run." Technology management is not a sure thing; in fact, 80%-90% of all new technologies fail. Even for the technologies that do succeed, it is just as difficult to predict which vendor/product will succeed as it is to know which stock will rise on the stock market.
