Running IT Like a Business: Planning for Success

Since the mid-1980s, and perhaps even earlier, studies of the performance of IT have consistently revealed three things: (1) business executives are unhappy with the returns their companies earn on their IT investments; (2) these same executives are unhappy with the lack of alignment between business goals and IT spending; and (3) many users are unhappy with IT for what they perceive as poor service quality and a lack of responsiveness to their needs.
