Rethinking the IT Function: The Future of Enterprise Applications

For the average non-IT executives, IT expenses within their companies are one giant black hole that is beyond their understanding. The brave executive who tries to make an effort to understand is confused by the IT organizational structure. This executive is unable to decipher how the company's product or service line is supported by technical functions such as database administration or network operations. Adding to the executive's frustration is the amount of money spent on highly visible IT projects such as Y2K, integrated packaged applications, and e-business. The lack of perceived value from these expenditures has further tarnished the image of IT.
