The Art of IT Strategic Planning: Building the Context
Organizations contemplating the development of an initial IT strategic plan or the refreshing of an existing one most often begin by building a context for the plan. The context is designed to answer management's initial IT planning question: "Where are we in our use of technology?" As discussed in the accompanying Executive Report, an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the organization's IT function, its technological positioning in the industry, and how well IT supports the vision and direction of the business provides management with the insight needed to identify beneficial technological initiatives.
