Business-IT Alignment: Lessons from Industry

Good business-IT alignment depends on several factors. At the highest level are the factors that establish the foundation for business-IT alignment: coordinated business and IT strategies, organizational structure, and budgeting and project-funding practices. At a more detailed level are the day-to-day factors that build on the foundation and actually determine the degree of business-IT alignment: business' attitude about IT, IT's understanding of the business, the technology infrastructure, and personal and team skills in both technology and business specialties.
