Every CIO knows that his or her job is getting more difficult. The world in which companies operate is changing all the time. New technologies are being introduced with greater frequency. Companies merge and expand. New enterprise solutions need to be delivered faster, and they need to be directly linked to business goals. Organizations are increasingly dependent on IT, and most projections suggest that the dependence will grow in the years ahead. As IT becomes more central to the survival of the company, one might think CIOs would get more respect.
