In this, the first Executive Update in a series of three on senior management's role in software development, we will look at the areas of software development in which senior managers generally get involved. We will then consider their perceptions of why projects fail, and we will examine the extent to which they agree on this point with their development staff. Finally, we will attempt to determine whether development organizations, in order to prevent senseless battles, need to increase or reduce the project involvement level of their senior managers.
