Those who have followed the software tools market for years know that there are better ways to make money. As a general rule, there is a lot of competition, the margins aren't that great, and there is a lot of turnover in what companies want. Remember Smalltalk tools, expert system tools, and the Java tools that came out before J2EE became established. There are a few companies that have survived for decades and made money in the software tools market, but not many.
