Large Software Projects
There have been several articles recently published in the computer press regarding the fact that Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) will miss its deadline for delivering a new IT system to the FBI. According to the General Services Administration, phase three of Trilogy -- a new system that will allow FBI agents to search, analyze, and compile case information -- will not be deployed on time. Reading between the lines, early phases delivered a network and some 21,000 desktop terminals and 291 servers, so we have an idea of the scope of the system. An FBI spokesperson was quoted as saying: "CSC has missed a number of deadlines over a period of time. The announcement was just recognition that the deadline was unachievable."
