BPMN in Popkin's Latest Release

by Paul Harmon

I have talked about BPMI's Business Process Management Notation (BPMN) in recent Advisors. In essence, BPMI, a consortium of companies led by Intalio and CSC, set out to develop a workflow-like language that could be used to coordinate business processes running on the Web. The effort was trumped by BPEL4WS (BPEL), an alternative BP language created by BEA, IBM, and Microsoft. BPEL has been submitted to OASIS for standardization, and most of the companies initially supporting BPMI have joined in the OASIS effort. When complete, BPEL will join the stack of XMI, SOAP, UDDI, and WSDL at the top level.
