The Wal-Mart Way

The 27 September issue of InformationWeek had an article on Wal-Mart. In a nutshell, Wal-Mart does everything internally. It doesn't outsource and it uses very little in the way of commercially available software. It does its own programming and its own business process reengineering. In spite of this, Wal-Mart spends less than the average, for retailers, on IT -- less than 1% of its worldwide budget.
