SOA Is More Than Web Services

by Michael Rosen

Several major service-oriented architecture (SOA) product announcements in the past few weeks have hit my "SOA hot button" one too many times. You'd think that the SOA bandwagon was getting full, but it just keeps going. Now don't get me wrong: I think SOA -- real SOA -- is a key ingredient of a successful enterprise IT strategy. Unfortunately, many vendors have simply replaced "Web services" with "SOA" as their new marketing phrase without actually addressing the issues of SOA. I'd hate to see SOA die from overhype when it's so important to enterprise agility and flexibility.
