The main benefit that portals offer is easy, integrated access to data, information, systems, and processes that are needed to carry out defined job responsibilities (for more on enterprise portals, see the Cutter Consortium Business Intelligence Executive Report " Enterprise Portals," Vol. 1, No. 2). The emphasis on "integrated access" is both a significant benefit as well as a key difficulty of most portals.
