Doing SOA Right Today, Part 2: Resolving the Initiative Planning Challenges

by Tushar K. Hazra

In my previous Advisor (see "Doing SOA Right Today, Part 1: Making Sure We're on the Right Track" 27 September 2006), I urged all fellow practitioners in the field not to embark upon SOA initiatives just because everyone else you know is pursuing the transformation of their existing business applications to Web services. I emphasized the fact that it is absolutely essential to perform your due diligence before jumping onto the bandwagon of SOA. I also shared with you a short list of activities that can help you determine whether you are on the right track for adopting SOA. Another important factor to consider is how you will resolve the initiative planning challenges in the early phases of the initiative -- if possible, well before the initiative is in full swing.
