CBD Survey: Organizational Impact

by Paul Allen

Executive Summary
In this edition of CDS, we come to the final piece in our three-part series reporting component-based development (CBD)-related data gathered by Cutter Consortium last year; this month, we focus on the organizational impact of CBD. We begin with a discussion of some possible organizational structures designed to support CBD and take an overall look at how seriously companies are taking the issue of organizational restructuring. We then drill down in more detail to survey the kinds of skills and roles that are being introduced into organizations to support CBD. Interestingly, though the trend is clearly not toward wholesale restructuring, there are significant moves toward the introduction of new roles at both technical and business levels. Finally, we take a look at survey results centering on an organization topic that is particularly relevant for CBD: the marketing of components.
