Web Services: Food for Thought

by Tom Welsh

In this inaugural issue of Web Services Strategies (WSS), I aim to start with a wide-angle discussion of Web services -- what they are for, their claimed benefits, and the extent to which these can be delivered today. Since many subscribers will have read my Cutter Consortium Distributed Enterprise Architecture Executive Report "Web Services in Context" (Vol. 5, No. 3) by now, I will try to avoid going over the same ground again. (If you do not have the report, it is available from Cutter Consortium; please visit www.cutter.com for more information.)
