Web Services and the Grid: OGSA, OGSI, and WSRF

by Tom Welsh

Having devoted WSS, Vol. III, No. 12, to a review of 2004, I would now like to return to the topic of Grid computing, which is surprisingly relevant to Web services. In Vol. III, Nos. 10 and 11, I laid out the background to the Grid, before drilling down to the Globus Project and the software it has created, the Globus Toolkit. Now it is time to move on to the convergence of Grid computing and Web services -- which means taking a close look at Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA), Open Grid Services Infrastructure (OGSI), the WS-Resource Framework (WSRF), and WS-Notification (WSN).
