Migrating to Enterprise Component Computing: The Construction Phase
This report is the third in a series of reports examining how companies should approach their enterprise-wide transition from "traditional" computing to component computing. So far, we have discussed the initiation and concept phases (Vol. 1, No. 1 and Vol. 2, No. 3), in which the transition was planned, pilot projects were selected and scoped, and the initial architecture was defined. Now we will look at the construction phase, during which the pilot applications are implemented using shared component frameworks and a supporting systems infrastructure based on the architecture defined earlier. Future reports will discuss the harvesting and replication phases, in which the enterprise component architecture, infrastructure, and development process are finalized and replicated as a standard across the organization. Before we begin examining the construction phase, let's briefly review the initiation and concept phases.
