Web Services and Service-Oriented Architectures

The latest buzzword in the software industry is "Web services." Web services will become an important element of the new and future generation of distributed and e-business systems and are a natural evolution in the maturity of the software industry. Within the Web services space, and in the directly related (as discussed in this Executive Report) "service-oriented architectures" (SOA) space, the software industry is slowly creating the technical, architectural, methodological, and functional frameworks required to support the current business realities and the associated new types of information systems.
