EMigrating to Enterprise Component Computing: The Construction Phase

by Michael Guttman, Jason Matthews

This is the third report by Michael Guttman and Jason Matthews that is focused on migrating to enterprise component computing. In Vol. 1, No. 1, they began describing the processes and best practices that companies routinely follow to make successful transitions. They described a five-step process (see Figure 1) and explained the goals and decisions involved in the concept phase. In Vol. 2, No. 3, they described the second phase of the process, suggesting how companies should begin putting an architecture in place, developing a plan, and implementing pilot projects. In last month's report, Guttman and Matthews also discussed enterprise component architectures. Although this wasn't technically part of the series, it described how companies might approach the problems involved in creating an architecture for component development. This month, they describe the third phase in the overall transition process: the construction phase.
