Open source software will remain high on nearly every CIO's agenda for at least the next few years, primarily due to its potential to save money. "Any CIO without an open source strategy in 2003 will be paying too much for IT in 2004," writes Christopher Koch in the 15 March 2003 issue of CIO magazine. Koch's article, "Your Open Source Plan," describes a variety of clever ways CIOs are using open source products to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) for enterprise software, including the desktop.
