Enterprise architecture (EA) is big. Every week, technical journals and trade magazines publish articles about it. Organizations are creating EA groups, some within and some totally outside IT. So where there is this much smoke, there must be fire. EA has been a subject of discussion for decades, but organizations today are truly beginning to develop enterprise architectures and integrate them with their planning, budgeting, and development cycles. EA is especially big within the US federal government.
