Service-Oriented Architecture: Part III -- Strengths and Weaknesses
This is the third Executive Update in a four-part series on service-oriented architecture (SOA). Part II (Vol. 7, No. 10) examined the strategies and implementation policies open to SOA adopters. In that discussion, it emerged that SOA tends to be strongly associated with SOAP, loose coupling, and dynamic service lookup. A majority of the 347 respondents believe that SOAs should combine new and old applications, but most recommend a gradual, incremental rollout rather than a big-bang approach.
