Programming Tools: Programming Language Preferences

This is the second Executive Update in a series of five based on a recent Cutter Consortium survey1 investigating how organizations go about developing software. The first Update focused on the operating systems that are used as development and target platforms; here I shall zoom in to see which are the most popular programming languages, how many different languages companies use, and how language choices are made.
