Integration Strategies for Better SaaS Adoption

by Chetan Kothari, Prasanna S. Raghavendra

There are five key SaaS requirements that impact a SaaS architecture: security, customization, multi-tenancy, service orientation, and integration. Integration, one of the significant deterrents for SaaS, is the focus of this Executive Update. Good implementation of integration drives how a SaaS application can provide flexibility in an architecture by addressing the various functional composition requirements; thus, a solid implementation will enhance SaaS adoption.

This Update describes different integration scenarios, where both a hosted environment (referred to here as an on-demand environment) and one within the firewall (referred to here as an on-premise environment) need to integrate with each other to provide business services to end customers. We recommend various integration strategies that can be leveraged to address these integration requirements.
