Building Effective Portals: Achieve Return on Technology Investments -- Part II
Here in Part II, I submit a technical perspective in building effective portals. Special attention is focused on understanding the primary activities in achieving a return on technology investments. We begin with a cursory look at the business drivers as well as related critical success factors (CSFs) that IT practitioners consider before initiating portal projects. Then, it is essential to explore the means of assessing the ROI for new and existing technology investments. Subsequently, a set of steps using the Model Driven Architecture (MDA) approach is elaborated for creating a roadmap that practitioners can use in their portal projects. Finally, I present a number of lessons learned that have been collected and embraced while working with other practitioners in the trenches.
