Two weeks ago I wrote about the US government's plan to develop the "Total Information Awareness" system, a super data warehouse that would integrate large numbers of heterogeneous data sources -- both commercial and governmental -- and apply data mining techniques to search for patterns indicative of possible terrorist-related activity (" The Total Information Awareness System," 26 November 2002).
