Dashboards and Scorecards Are Driving BI Application Development

by Curt Hall

I've been talking with different vendors about what they see as the current hot corporate business intelligence (BI) application trends. Although all have their various opinions, most seem to agree that digital dashboards and scorecards are having a big influence on corporate BI application development efforts. Why? Because companies are finding that these applications provide the ideal capability to support the daily BI requirements associated with their customer relationship management (CRM), business process management, Six Sigma, enterprise performance management (EPM), and other business performance measurement initiatives. Moreover, the typical company developing digital dashboards and scorecarding applications tends to have a data warehouse and supporting data integration architecture already in place and is seeking to capitalize further on these existing investments. And digital dashboards and scorecards are enabling them to do so without "breaking the bank" in these tight IT spending times.
