The Global Grid Forum

by Curt Hall

In my 25 November 2003 Business Intelligence Advisor (" Grid Computing, Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence"), I discussed some of the challenges and opportunities that grid computing offers for data warehousing and business intelligence (BI). I also commented on what some of the BI and data warehousing vendors are doing to enable their products to better support grid computing environments. But I also noted that grid computing is still very much an emerging technology. I would add that it is sorely lacking in standards and specifications as to how companies should implement grid architectures and applications. (This is especially true when it comes to more mainstream business applications, as grid computing applications today tend to be research or pilot projects.) I am happy to point out, however, that the Global Grid Forum (GGF) seeks to change all this.
