Oracle's New BI Strategy
Usually after an OracleWorld conference, I provide readers with an overview of any new business intelligence (BI) capabilities Oracle has embedded in its flagship database product. This year, the big BI news coming out of the conference (which took place 5-9 December) was Oracle's introduction of standalone versions of its query, reporting, and analysis tool, which was previously coupled with its database/application server offerings. In so doing, Oracle basically announced its entry into the standalone BI tools market. It also rebranded its various data warehousing and BI offerings as "Oracle Business Intelligence 10g," which now includes the following products:
