The Case for Strong National Data Security Regulations

The number of customer data breaches reported by organizations over the last 12 months has repeatedly made headlines. As a result, you would think it would be the goal of everyone -- government and industry alike -- to strive to make the protection of customer data and other consumer information as strong as possible to alleviate growing consumer fears. It appears this isn't the case, judging from the current state of data security legislation making its way through the US Congress and attempts by lobbyists to water it down to where it is absolutely useless and serves no one.
