Embedded, "Process-Aware" Analytics
An interesting BI development trend that I believe is beginning to receive more interest from organizations is embedded, or "process-aware," analytics. This type of analytics is a form of operational BI (i.e., BI applied to support tactical or daily business decisions) in which analytics are tightly integrated with specific business processes in order to monitor and optimize that process and/or related processes and business activities. An example is an embedded BI/analytic workflow designed to measure and manage actual business performance as well as to guide an end user through the various steps necessary to utilize the results achieved from monitoring and analysis. Embedded analytics can also apply the results of monitoring and analysis to automate launching another process.
