As corporations evolve from deep, monolithic, hierarchical models of operation to flat, lean, agile business models, growing information requirements magnify the pressing need for sharing and disseminating information across organizational boundaries. Today, e-mail naturally fulfills this role; however, internal and external competitive pressures require time-constrained, controlled, and risk-reduced e-mail responses. As a result, a greater emphasis must be placed on the strategic value of e-mail management systems.
