KM and BI: From Mutual Isolation to Complementarity and Synergy
Knowledge management (KM) and business intelligence (BI) have developed in a mutually isolated fashion. I consider KM and BI as distinct but interrelated in terms of common foundation, mutual effects, complementarity, and synergy. I recommend that organizations use the full-fledged versions of both KM and BI, while recognizing that these distinct capabilities can be much more effective if used in a complementary and synergistic fashion. This Executive Report by Rajiv Sabherwal looks at this interrelationship of KM and BI as it discusses the results of a recent Cutter survey on the topic.
