Using Enterprise Architecture to Build Enterprise-Wide, Integrated Portals

by Clive Finkelstein

The accompanying Executive Report shows how enterprise architecture (EA) is used to design and build enterprise portals that support an integrated enterprise. In the report, which builds on earlier Cutter research, I first discuss the difficulties typically experienced in most enterprise portal environments and review EA alignment principles that may help overcome these obstacles. I then focus on using EA to build integrated portals, including the role matrices play. Finally, I conclude by examining the future direction for enterprise portals, specifically technology and EA directions.
