Web data analysis has received considerable attention in the general computing and IT trade press, and it is frequently cited by business intelligence (BI) tool vendors as an application area for the use of their products. However, the extent to which companies are actually using BI tools for analyzing their Web site and Web-based e-commerce data has been subject to argument, and reports on the topic tend to flip-flop back and forth as to how widespread the practice actually is.
