Bridging the BI Disconnect Between Corporate IT and Business
Perhaps one of the hardest things for IT professionals to do is accept their own limitations. However, because of the great diversity in technical skills required by corporate entities today, it is very difficult for any one corporate IT group to satisfy its daily operational functions as well as take on the added demands of specialty areas such as business intelligence (BI), data warehousing (DW), and business performance management (BPM). To assume that one organization can maintain expertise for all of these functions is definitely a stretch. In a time of mergers, acquisitions, and expansions, the stress and demands placed on IT groups are intense, and IT budgets have shrunk, reflecting budget cuts and downsizing.
