The rapid acceleration of technical innovation over the Internet is revolutionizing the way we do business. Banks, consumers, and merchants are being driven to this new medium to reduce the time and cost of performing financial and merchant transactions. This phenomenon is known as electronic commerce. Sun defines "electronic commerce" as the strategic use of computers and communications technology to create new products and services that reduce costs, increase sales, and improve customer service.
