I am cursed with a judgmental nature, and it irks me when people pretend that a mistake was something they planned. In software development, teams often joke, "Oh, that's not a bug, it's a feature!" Similarly, I was sitting in a class once and noticed that the teacher had made an error. Someone finally brought the mistake to the teacher's attention. His words became for me a model of how not to teach: "I did that on purpose to see if you were paying attention."
