Don't Play with "Mouths of Fire," and Other Lessons of Global Software Development

Global manufacturing is a well-known method used to reduce manufacturing costs without sacrificing quality. Management argues that, with the lower salaries and other benefits that engineers in developing countries command, software developed offshore would cost half as much as the same software developed in the US or Western Europe. Why not use software organizations in regions where software engineers are widely available and their employment is not as expensive as in the Western hemisphere, thus ensuring fast and cheap software development?
